Jr. Festival Scales - PLEASE NOTE: The scales are written out for clarification and no changes have been made in the requirements.

Eighth notes ascending and descending - Quarter Note = 100
Soprano scale: E Major
Alto scale: A Major
Tenor scale: E Major
Bass scale: Bb Major

Choral Sight Reading Guidelines for Junior District
1. Examples will be in the clef that the student's part is (All Ye Who Music Love).
2. Examples will be in the key of C Major and will be 8 measures long.
3. Examples will start and end on the tonic and the tonic pitch will be given to the student.
4. Examples will be in 4/4 time and will use ONLY quarter notes, half notes, whole notes, and half rests.
5. The only skips in the melodies will be between the tonic chord notes; the rest of the example will be stepwise.
6. Students must sing (no humming or whistling) and may use solfege, numbers, or a neutral syllable.
7. Students will be given 30 seconds to look at the example before being asked to start.
